Become a CISM Team Member


We invite anyone interested in serving as Mental Health Team members and Peer Team members to submit an application. Clinicians must have advanced training in the assessment and management of emotional problems. Peer Team Members include public safety personnel who are familiar with the circumstances and stresses common in emergency work.

Team members must meet specific membership criteria and undergo a criminal background check. Membership criteria include the following:

  • Members must be in good standing with their respective departments
  • Must be age 21 or older
  • Applicants must provide a copy of criminal background check completed within the previous 90 days showing that they do not meet any criteria listed under 12VAC5-31-910 of the Virginia EMS Rules and Regulations Section A (General Denial) or Section B (Presumptive Denial) that would prohibit them from being certified by the Virginia Office of EMS OR submit to a criminal background check process determined by the Southwest Virginia EMS Council.
  • Have at least two years experience in their respective discipline
  • Provide proof of completion of an appropriate CISM training for review by the Clinical Coordinator
  • Must be willing to abide by the Operating and Administrative Policies
  • Submit three references
