Southwest Virginia EMS Council, Inc., is a regional Council serving
the citizens of Virginia Planning District 1, Planning District 2 and
Planning District 3.
The goal of Southwest
Virginia EMS Council. Training Program is to facilitate increased proficiency
and effectiveness of pre-hospital patient care providers and the overall
advancement of Emergency Medical Services within the region.
Southwest Virginia
EMS Council will offer a comprehensive training program annually to
pre-hospital care providers throughout our region subject to the policies
set forth in this document. The training program will include refresher
courses, auxiliary courses, and other courses deemed appropriate by
the Training and Education Committee and Council staff.
- A comprehensive
training plan and schedule will be developed and distributed to EMS
agencies and providers (through methods deemed appropriate by the
Council) at the beginning of the Council’s fiscal year.
- The Training Schedule is in no way a binding agreement. The Training
Schedule is subject to change and/or cancellation by the Council at
any time. Reasons for cancellation include, but are not limited, to
low enrollment, scheduling conflicts, staff availability, emergencies,
or other factors.
- Course offerings,
dates, class start/end times, and locations are subject to change
at the discretion of designated Council personnel and/or course coordinators.
Every effort will be made to give prior notice of any such changes
in scheduling; however, it is the registrant’s
responsibility to confirm course availability prior to the course date.
Scheduling changes will be listed on the Council’s website.
- Advanced registration must be completed and payment of all course
fees (tuition and/or text fees) must be received in the Council office
at least two weeks (fourteen calendar days) prior to the course start
date. Invoicing of agencies will be completed according to existing
standard Council office procedures (see item 11). Individuals
or agencies issuing bad checks are subject to a returned check fee.
Southwest Virginia EMS Council will determine the amount of the fee
and method of collection.
- Registration and enrollment for all Council-sponsored courses is
completed on a first-come first-served basis. Course enrollment may
be limited at the discretion of the Council.
- Pre-registration and advanced payment of course fees is the responsibility
of the registrant. Confirmation of registration can only be guaranteed
by voice contact with the Council office and only after all necessary
fees are received in the office. Voice messages and emails are not
acceptable forms of registration.
- Southwest Virginia EMS Council will make every effort to accommodate
the training needs of all pre-hospital providers in our region; however,
no pre-registered student, without exception, will be bumped from a
course and replaced by another student.
- Course tuition will be charged to registered individuals according
to the fee schedule (subject to change) attached to this document and/or
as indicated on individual course announcements. Fees are set by the
Council and are not subject to negotiation. Southwest Virginia Emergency
Medical Services Council is not responsible for errors in course announcements
regarding applicable fees.
- For determination
of course fees, the term “ALS Providers” shall
mean any Virginia- Certified EMS provider at the level of EMT-Shock
Trauma, EMT-Cardiac Tech, EMT-Enhanced, EMT-Intermediate and/or EMT-Paramedic.
- EMS or Healthcare
providers wishing to invoice an agency for a course will be required
to provide a signed letter of approval from an authorized officer
of their agency that provides the member’s name, course
name/date, and total cost. If a provider fails to attend a
course for which he/she is registered, the affiliated agency will be
responsible for all course costs. No refund will be issued.
- Cancellation
of an individual’s course registration at least
two weeks (14 calendar days) in advance will entitle the individual
or affiliated agency to full reimbursement of tuition costs or a credit
for the tuition for a future course.
- Failure of the provider to cancel their registration at least two
weeks (14 calendar days) prior to the scheduled course date will result
in the affiliated agency being billed for all costs associated with
that course.
- Individuals or agencies may, at the discretion of the Council, receive
a full or partial refund of course tuition providing registration cancellation
is received in advance AND the Council is able to
find another student to fill the open course slot.
- If course tuition is being paid by an agency, the agency
will be invoiced for the cost of course tuition, regardless of whether
the registrant attended the training, pursuant to the cancellation
procedures outlined in this document.
- The Southwest
Virginia Emergency Medical Services Council Training Policy may be
modified at any time at the discretion of the Council. If modification
is made to the policy, agencies will be notified of those changes,
and the policy will be updated on the Council website.
