CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR NON-COUNCIL COURSES

The Training and Education Committee implemented a new regional policy effective January 1, 2008, that prohibits the Council from issuing continuing education (CE) credit for non-council courses.  This decision was made for quality assurance/improvement reasons, and to reduce Council course cancellations.  The Council is open to partnering with our regional hospitals and other EMS stakeholders when practical to make CE opportunities available throughout the region.  Such collaborative arrangements allow the Council to insure that educational objectives are met, adhere to state and national program guidelines, and allow for the level of oversight necessary for the Council to issue credit for those programs.

Healthcare facilities wishing to partner with the Council should submit a CE Partnership Agreement and may contact Gary Whiteaker or Josh Wilkinson for more information.

WEB-BASED CONTINUING EDUCATION (OEMS)

The Office is EMS is pleased to announce the capability to receive electronic continuing education records from third-party CE vendors. This new interface allows the Office of EMS to accept and apply Category 1 and Category 2 CE credits earned from approved third-party vendors directly to the provider’s CE records.  For more information, please visit the OEMS website at http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/OEMS/Training/WebBasedCE.htm
