The Southwest Virginia EMS Council has released updated regional medical protocols for emergency medical services providers, updated for 2025.
The comprehensive update includes revisions to treatment guidelines, expanded options for patient care interventions, and alignment with the latest evidence-based practices in prehospital medicine. Key changes are anticipated in areas such as airway management, cardiovascular care, and pediatric treatment pathways.
In addition to the updated protocols, the Council plans to launch a new digital protocol application at the beginning of 2026. The mobile and web-based platform aims to give EMS personnel faster, offline access to up-to-date guidance during calls.
“Modernizing both our clinical guidance and the way clinicians access it was a priority this cycle,” said a spokesperson for the Southwest Virginia EMS Council. “The new protocol app will make it easier for providers in the field to deliver high-quality care.”
During this transition, ongoing changes and updates to the protocols will be implemented. If you notice something that you are not aware of or that appears to be incorrect, please contact the EMS Council.
